Dr. Tzu-Yu Wu is an optical engineer at Canon, U.S.A., in the Healthcare Optics Research Laboratory. Dr. Wu earned her Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona, and a M.S. degree in Physics from National Taiwan University. Dr. Wu’s Ph.D. research was focused on the development of high-resolution imaging devices that provide rapid detection of early stage cancer through a minimally invasive procedure. Her current research at Canon is focused on the development of advanced medical imaging systems such as ultra-miniature endoscope and cardiovascular imaging catheter. Her specialties are optical design, system setup, opto-mechanics, and biomedical optics. Dr. Wu is particularly interested in bench to bedside translation where ideas are transformed from research into clinically viable instruments and ultimately translated into commercialization. She will be speaking on her research background, personal experiences searching for employment and the interview process, as well as, how she prepared in advance for her career. Dr. Wu will also be sharing her experience in transitioning from a researcher to an R&D engineer, and will share her personal view of what it is like working at Canon.
