On Feb. 24, 2017, the BME EDGE was honored to Dr. Tzu-Yu Wu, an optical engineer from Canon Healthcare Optics Research Lab (at Boston), gave a lunch talk titled “From Academia to Industry”, during which she shared with Hopkins students (including PhD and master students from BME, ECE, and other departments) her personal experiences searching for employment, and tips and suggestions about resume and the interview process, etc., as well as warm suggestions about how to handle and survive the pressure from graduate study
As an international student studying in U.S., Dr. Wu’s experience in job hunting is especially useful and interesting for a lot of non-US students in Hopkins. More than 15 students attended the lunch lecture, which is filled with inspiring questions and heated discussion.
The event is held in collaboration with the Optical Society of America (OSA) Student Chapter at Hopkins, and is also part of the Industry Engineering Week in Hopkins. The trip expense of Tzu-Yu is sponsored by the Homewood Graduate Representative Organization (GRO) via a student group event funding applied by the OSA student chapter.
